What an incredible Valentine’s Day celebration we had on Wednesday February 14 at The Nest. We got the red love hearts out for decor, put on our love heart sunglasses and spread the love across the nest!
We believe Love Day is EVERY DAY here at Street Peace, but for Valentine’s day we got extra intentional to share with our youth the importance of what the Bible shares on the Father’s heart and how we can best love one another.
Rachel shared on what Godly love looks, feels and sounds like by expanding on the three different types of love found in the word:
- Philos: Love of a friend/mate
- Eros: Romantic love
- Agape: Sacrificial, unconditional love of God
With these three distinct loves, we unpacked what true love is directly from the scriptures in 1 Corinthians 13. Those at the Nest discovered that love is kind, it does not envy, it is not boastful, proud, rude, irritable and keeps no record of wrong. By distinguishing what love is through the word, our youth were able to gain a greater understanding of how they are loved, and what it looks like to love others.
After this incredible teaching from Rachel, we heard from Junior as he shared a Street Peace Love Story on how he met and proposed to his beautiful wife. Junior’s testimony of love captured the attention of the youth as he shared firsthand what Christ-like love for a spouse can look like.
We then sang our hearts away to a variety of love songs with karaoke and finished the night off with a delicious spaghetti bolognese feed! As we enjoyed spending time together as a Street Peace family, there was plenty of fun and reflection on how Valentine’s day can be less about the roses, gifts and chocolates, and more about looking out for one another in love.
As it says in 1 John 4:19: We love, because Jesus first loved us.
