Our Street Peace Threads coordinator Debi De Silva has been working super hard behind the scenes this past month in anticipation to launch Street Peace Threads very own online store.
Street Peace Threads was an idea birthed out of the Street Peace youth drop-in centre, The Nest. Street Peace founder, Jay Shelling had a conversation with a young girl at The Nest, where she declared to him, “I am a Child of God”. So touched by her declaration, Jay decided to design a ‘Child of God’ hoodie and give them to the youth for Christmas in 2022. The gifts were well received, which sparked a simple plan to create a unique streetwear collection that tells stories of hope, transformation, and empowerment.
From here the vision has expanded, with a heart to bridge the gap between high-quality streetwear that charges meaningful social change. We want to see at-risk youth positively impacted by this apparel to live with purpose and hope (and to look fresh while doing so!). Each garment carries the weight of positive impact, in the same way that each youth who wears a garment has a story to tell, this is a combination worth talking about and worth sowing into.
Street Peace Threads main mission is to seamlessly combine fashion excellence with social impact, curating a range of seasonal streetwear collections that are bursting with creativity and sparking excitement. The best part? All collection designs are co-created with our youth community – and that is non-negotiable – we want the youth who will wear these threads to be apart of the creative process and to have a sense of ownership in the impact of Threads.
So with Street Peace Threads Online, the goal of this online store is to be a user-friendly e-commerce platform that is purpose-built to provide a seamless shopping experience. Complete with high-quality images, detailed product descriptions and a secure checkout process to keep your card details safe and sound. We are inspired to bring the local Street Peace Threads store into the wider community of Australia to serve as a primary sales channel with the convenience and ease of ordering the latest threads online.
Expanding the Street Peace Threads movement beyond the local and into the online space is to not move away from the current identity and lose what makes this space so incredible – but to spread the message to a wider audience.
